Despite missing out on his chance of a £25,000 windfall a Leyland boxer is refusing to get too downbeat.
Chris Johnson was a reserve for the SkySports Prize Fight event two weeks ago and if any of the top eight boxers pulled out he would have been thrown into the action with a chance of winning a cash windfall.

The 27-year-old never actually got into the ring.

However, behind the scenes there were problems in the his camp in the week leading up to the big event.

He said: "I had changed the brand of my protein supplements over the past few weeks but I was finding the weight was not dropping off in the days leading up to the fight.

"It meant that I was doing saunas, running and other things to keep my fluids down as I needed to lose nine pounds before the weigh in.

"In the end I got it down enough but it meant on the night of the fight I was suffering from the effects of dehydration.

"Looking back on it now I am glad I did not get in the ring as I could have got seriously hurt but it was all my fault for changing my brand and I have learnt from that to stick with my original one."

Johnson is back in preparation for his bout at Blackpool Tower on November 22 and he wants to finish his year on a high.

He said: "My promoter has lined me with a couple of boxers who are undefeated in their career so it is going to be difficult.

"But these are the sort of fights I need and want to be involved in as I want to challenge for some belts soon. I have a few years left boxing and I want to make the most of them.

"It has not been confirmed who my opponent will be but one of the names that has been mentioned in Dale Mills."

Johnson is calling on people of Leyland and Chorley to come and support him at the Blackpool showpiece.

Anyone interested in buying tickets for the fight should contact Chris on 07740722475.
