Wakefield 3
Bamber Bridge 1

A serious injury to defender Stuart Howson overshadowed Bamber Bridge's second defeat in four days at Wakefield on Saturday.
The former professional footballer suffered a broken leg during the second half of a disappointing game in West Yorkshire.

Fresh from a cup defeat to Marine in the week Brig travelled down the M62 hoping to complete a league double over their opponents in just a couple of weeks.

The home team started the better of the two sides and broke the deadlock through Delroy Ferguson.

On 36 minute the Wakefield No 11 picked up the ball outside the box and Brig were made to pay for not closing him down as he rifled his shot beyond the despairing Banks.

The second half was only minutes old when things went from bad to worse for the visitors when Howson was taken off with a fractured leg.

However, on 55 minutes Brig thought they had broken level when Ryan Zico-Black and Zarac linked up to put Porter through to fire past Woods but the effort was ruled out for offside.

Brig boss Phil Entwistle introduced Anthony Murt and Mike Mason into the equation and they combined well for the visitors' equaliser on 69 minutes.

After a defence splitting pass by Mason, Murt was on hand to slot the ball past Woods via a deflection off the goalpost.

However, Brig were soon brought down to earth when Wakefield's new signing James Walshaw took his chance to put Wakefield back in front with 21 minutes remaining.

With 90 minutes on the clock the visitors were caught at the back and Walshaw bagged his second of the afternoon and leave Brig wondering what could have been.

Bamber Bridge: Andy Banks, David McCann (Anthony Murt 66mins), Stuart Howson (Mike Mason 47mins), Glen Steel, Adam Tong, Steve Flitcroft, Steve Brown, Ryan Zico-Black, Neil Zarac, Alex Porter, Tom Ince. Unused subs : Jamie Nay and Mark Edmeads
