He may have only started the sport to try to improve his pace in front of goal as a footballer, but a Leyland schoolboy is sprinting to success as an athlete.
Tom Bradbury, from Wellfield Business College, is the Lancashire 100m champion at U15 level and is eager to build on his achievements.

The Preston Harrier has started winter training early to improve his chances of retaining his title.

Proud mum Jayne said: "Throughout his time at Leyland Albion he was a striker and wanted to keep up his fitness to be quicker off the mark.

"He is keen to impress at his new football club BAC Preston and he seems to be doing well."

The 14-year-old runner won the Lancashire County Championships in May followed up by the Lancashire Schools competition in the 100m event.

Lancashire's fastest 14-year-old is working on his endurance and he needs to knock 0.40 of a second off his season's best time to retain his title in a new U17 age group next year.

Tom said: "I am keen to work hard as I want to do well at the English Schools event and do better than this year when I did not make the final.''
