Bamber Bridge 5 Newcastle Town 0

Bamber Bridge ended their pre-season programme with a convincing 5-0 win against Newcastle Town in the Irongate sunshine on Saturday.

Brig struck first with a goal on the half-hour mark courtesy of a fine shot by Darren Green, who was put in on goal by Neil Black.

Five minutes later the home side were two goals to the good when defender Luke Atherton headed a Craig Sargeson corner-kick firmly home.

Just after half-time Brig scored again following a long clearance up-field by goalkeeper Ben Hinchliffe who's lofted punt out-foxed the Town defence.

His opposite number in the Town goal, Danny Reade completely misjudged the flight of the ball and Paul Lloyd nipped in to take advantage with a simple tap-in on 58 minutes.

Bamber Bridge ensured the day was theirs with two more strikes late in the game, the first from a header by Atherton for his second of the game from a Martin Crowder cross on 87 minutes.

Two minutes later came the goal of the game from 'man-of-the-match' Ashley Dunn who ran through the static Town defence before rounding Reade and shooting into the roof of the net.

Bamber Bridge: Ben Hinchliffe, James Heywood (Tom Clarkson 45mins), Martin Crowder, Luke Atherton, Michael White (Phil Robinson 45mins), Warren Beattie (Chris Marlow 55mins), Ashley Dunn, Darren Green (Holmes 71mins), Neil Black (Steven Green 71mins), Craig Sargeson (Neil Reynolds 55mins), Paul Lloyd.
