Brig hail 'fresh start' after showdow

Bamber Bridge FC assistant boss Neil Crowe believes last week's showdown between the management and the players can be the catalyst for a fresh start.

After a run of poor results, chairman Terry Gammans and manager Tony Greenwood stamped out their frustrations about getting only one win (against Chorley) since the turn of the year.

Chairman Terry Gammans immediately announced on the club's website: "Tony Greenwood is here to stay, and I will sit down with him in the next few days to work out a fresh strategy."

The club also announced Martin Moran, Phil Eastwood, Phil Denney, Phil Robinson and Mike Hale were put on the transfer-list while Matt Cross and Lennie Reid were released.

On Saturday the QED Stadium side responded with a 2-1 victory over Salford City.

But Crowe says the players know they cannot rest on their laurels despite the win.

"Hopefully we can kick on from here to start picking up a few results," he said. "I know it is still a tall order to get in the play-offs but until it is mathematically impossible then I think we should be aiming for it.

At the start of the season we were struggling to score goals but our defence was not letting in anything.

Now, Peter (Wright) and Chris (Thompson) are doing well up-front but we have to stop conceding."

Brig have a tough task on Saturday when they play the side one place above them in the UniBond First Division North table - AFC Fylde.

Brig will be looking for revenge after a defeat and draw against the Kellamergh Park outfit earlier this season.

Crowe said: "Fylde are a good side. They are like us in many ways as they are up and down in the league and are inconsistent.

"But it is their first season at our level and I think they would be happy with a midtable place in the league.

"There also is a lot of rivalry between the two sides as some of our players used to play for them so both sides want to get a win.

Then there is the meeting of the Mahoney brothers - Danny and Matt again so it will add a bit of spice to the occasion."
