Brig boss busy as new stars arrive

BAMBER Bridge FC have signalled their intentions for the new season after manager Tony Greenwood made several signings.

In May, the Guardian reported how Greenwood had released eight players from the QED stadium squad, including Matt Mahoney and Mark Edmeads.

But the former Fleetwood Town supremo has been busy scouring non-league football circles to bring in five new players.

One of the standout signings is the return of former Brig defender Neil Reynolds to the club after a spell at Clitheroe.

Also signed up to the club is striker Phil Eastwood, who has experience of playing Conference standard football.

Among the other names to move into the Brig dressing room include former Fleetwood players left-back Lee Priors and striker Phil Denney and ex-Wigan trainee James Heywood.

They will all join Colin McAllister, Steve Brown, Stuart Howson, Steve Williams and Sean O’Neil at the club.

Greenwood said: “These players will bring a lot of experience to the team, which I think we were lacking at the end of last season.

“We were a very young team with lots of enthusiasm, but we have done well to bring in quite a few players so early.

“I have spoken to four more players and hopefully they will be signing on by the weekend.”

Brig begin their pre-season training on June 30 in preparation for their first match against Thornton Cleveleys on July 11. They then take on Preston North End on July 14, followed by Garstang on July 27.
