Brig chairman concerned about loss of fixtures
Instead of reading the fixture list Bamber Bridge FC chairman Terry Gammans has found himself looking up the weather forecast.
The QED Stadium supremo, just like many other chairman in non-league, is having nightmares about the weather dictating when a match can be played.
Brig's next match with Trafford on Saturday is set to be called off and Gammans said: "We have only had one match in December which is frustrating especially in terms of lost revenue.
"The Boxing Day clash with Chorley is a real money-spinner where we attract a big crowd but it has had to be rescheduled for a Tuesday night.
"We don't usually get as many fans on Tuesday games and then if the match on Saturday is called off, we will have another game to add to our backlog.
"It is really soul-destroying as all we could do is get an army of supporters down to clear it but I think the snow is going to be a lot thicker than Boxing Day.
"The only option is to put in under soil heating but it is too costly for non-league clubs."
Gammans believes clubs are the victims of the severest weather conditions in years and they are powerless to sort the situation.
He said: "It is a vicious circle as if we decide to move the snow off the pitch then it will thaw out and turn to water which will then freezes and you still cannot play.
"We have to worry also about the car park and the stand as our supporters have to be safe because we are responsible for them."
Brig were one of the only clubs in the UniBond First Division to play at the weekend by losing 3-1 against Lancaster City.
Gammans said: "It was disappointing because for the first 70 minutes we played well and were 1-0 up after a great goal by Phil Denney.
"Their top-scorer Jordan Connerton added another to his tally but in the last 10 minutes it all fell apart as we made some elementary mistakes at the back."
