It was a mixed weekend for Euxton and Brinscall as both sides battle it out for the bragging rights in the section B of the Senior League.
Brinscall currently sit third while Euxton sit sixth but it was a weekend to forgot for Liam Winstanley’s side who suffered defeats against Edenfield and Cherry Tree.
On Saturday, Edenfield were bowled out for 174 with star bowler Sam MacLachlan taking 7-62.
Brinscall’s Stuart Parker scored a half-century as Brinscall looked set for victory at 114-3 with plenty of overs remaining, however the spin of Paul Gallagher ran through the Brinscall lower order and they were bowled out for 143.
On Sunday, Brinscall were thrashed by 180-runs against a strong Cherry Tree side.
Cherry Tree closed on 254-8, as Brinscall’s bowlers struggled with a wet ball in blustery conditions.
Ruan Sadler took advantage of drop catches to score 64, but it was a disappointing day with the ball for Brinscall who conceded 51 extras.
Josh Murfett was the pick of the bowlers taking 3-14.
The Brinscall reply never got going at all and they limped to a poor 74 all out in a rain-affected game.
Professional Sadler, took 5-24 in his last game before returning to South Africa.
Mark Winrow’s Euxton were thrashed by 75-runs against Padiham.
Overseas amateur Preston White once again showed his qualities with the ball, bowling tremendously taking 8-42 off 15 overs. But he struggled for support and Padiham managed to score 171 before being bowled out.
Nick Dunn (25) and Chris Pearson (26), top scored for Euxton but it was a poor effort with the bat as they were skittled for 96.
On Sunday, Euxton bounced back from Saturday’s defeat and pipped Brooksbottom to victory by three runs.
At Balshaw Park, Euxton once again under performed with the bat and were bowled out for 116.
White top scored with 20 with Pearson and Ol Marsden chipping in with 17 runs each.
Destructive Aussie White again impressed with the ball taking 3-46 off 17 overs but it was bowling partner Louis Sweeney who was Euxton’s hero.
He ripped through the Brooksbottom lower order taking 5-36 off 11 overs.
The introduction of Sweeney saw Brooksbottom collapse from 67-3 to 113-9 before rain came to help seal a valuable victory.
This weekend Euxton make trips to Cherry Tree and Edenfield, while Brinscall travel to Brooksbottom and Salesbury.
