SWIMMERS from the Leyland Barracudas Club battled it out in 62 events over four days of competition to find the top swimmers in each age group for each stroke covering 50m for each age group, 100m open events and the 100 and 200m Individual Medley.

Andrew Plummer (17) and Lucy Newton (12) were awarded the overall top boy and girl swimmer awards.

Andrew won all his events, the open age group 100m events in all strokes, all the 50m races for each of the four strokes in the 14 and over category and the 14 and over 200m Individual Medley event.

Lucy won the 12/13yrs 50m butterfly and 50m back, the open age group 100m freestyle and the 13 years and under 100m Individual Medley.

Trophies for best supporting boy and girl boy went to Victoria Hill (14) and Ben Martin (12).

Ben gained first position in the 12/13 years 50m freestyle, 50m back & 50m breaststroke and the 13 and under 100m Individual Medley and Victoria won the 14 and over 50m backstroke.

Ellie Cameron (11) and Johnny Rowland (11) won all four trophies in their age group in the 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke and 50m breaststroke events.

Ellie was crowned best 11 and under girl for the third consecutive year. Johnny won it for a second consecutive year.

Throughout the gala, six club records were broken.

Andrew Plummer broke an incredible three records in the 14 and over 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle.

Pia Murray (10) broke two club records in 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly.

Meanwhile Anna Dutton (10) broke the record in the 50m freestyle event. To finish off the special awards, Isabel Cockerham and Brandon Davies (both 12) were presented with a certificate for the most points accumulated throughout the year for personal best times.

This 39th annual gala was again a great success and with all those records broken shows how modern day swimmers are progressing.
