Brig end winless streak

Evostik First Division North

Bamber Bridge 1 Durham City 0

BAMBER Bridge ended their miserable run of form of six games without a win by defeating Durham.

It was the QED Stadium side’s 1000th point in Northern Premier League Football and the home side survived a few late scares to pick up the win.

Brig started the game brightly with midfielder Michael Galliers forcing an early save out of James Winters after 13 minutes.

The hosts went close from a corner by Alistair Waddecar and also through a scuffed shot by Chris Marlow.

However, they did not have to wait long for what proved to be the only goal of the game through the impressive Waddecar on 38 minutes.

Matt Jones set Galliers away who threaded it through to winger Waddecar who fired home beyond keeper’s despairing dive.

It remained 1-0 at the break as keeper Ben Hinchcliffe was called into action to snuff out the danger.

Galliers provided the spark for Brig during the game and he was unlucky not to find himself on the scoresheet around the hour mark but he drove wide.

With 20 minutes remaining, the hosts survived a goalmouth scramble as Hinchliffe used all his years of experience to tip the ball away for a corner.

The clock was ticking down and Durham’s David Dowson hit a shot through a crowded goalmouth and straight at the keeper.

In added time, Dowson was denied again by Hinchcliffe as Brig held on for a deserved win.
