Charnock win at last
West Lancashire League Premier Division Charnock Richard 2 Freckleton 1
Two goals from Chris Bennett saw Charnock Richard come from behind to get their first win since January 5.
A lively Freckleton side took a 21st minute lead when Charnock defender Graeme Keenan failed to clear a right wing cross and the ball was driven home just inside the post.
Determined to get back into the game Bennett went clear on goal after 28 minutes but a defender got across to block his shot and the opportunity to pull level was gone.
The visitors could have gone 2-0 up at half-time when a cross from the left evaded the home defence but the header at the back post went wide.
At the start of the second half Charnock laid siege on the Freckleton goal to get an equaliser.
Charnock had a couple of opportunities as James Price and Bennett could not connect with Lee Pennington's cross.
It was only a matter of time before the equaliser came and with the half only four minutes old Jimmy King went down the left flank and his cross was turned into the corner of the net by Bennett.
A mistake by the visiting keeper allowed Bennett to chase through but his shot from a narrow angle hit the outside of the post.
On 71 minutes Bennett went clear and took the ball around the keeper to give Charnock Richard a well-deserved lead.
Although the game was far from over and Tim Mullock had to come to their rescue on a number of occasions.
Alan Taylor replaced Shepherd in the home defence while Priestley moved into the back four - Charnock held on to give them their first win in five games.
On Saturday, Charnock Richard are at home to Fulwood Amateurs with a 3pm kick off.
