Girls from Eccleston St Mary’s Primary School are through to the SPAR Lancashire School Games County final after winning the Chorley district’s girls’ football tournament.
The school will now represent the borough in the Lancashire games after running out group winners at a tournament held at Holy Cross High School.
The girls played in a round-robin tournament in which they won three of their games and drew two – conceding no goals in the process.
Gemma Stokes, school games organiser for Chorley, said: “It was a fantastic event and despite the bad weather, all the girls were still keen to take part so it certainly didn’t dampen their spirits.”
The games now move into its next stage as Eccleston St Mary’s will take on the other winners throughout
The county final’s will take place at Stanley Park in Blackpool on July 1.
n There was more medal success in the Lancashire Schools’ Games as Astley Park Special took home a heap of medals in the Disability Swimming Gala.
More than 200 primary and secondary school’s from across Lancashire met at Salt Ayre Leisure Centre in Lancaster to compete.
Astley Park brought home 13 medals in total, two gold, seven silver and four bronze medals.
The gold medals wins came in the girls key stage three length 25m backstroke and the girls’ key stage four 25m front crawl.
Also representing Chorley was Mayfield School, which took two gold awards in the boys’ key stage four-)length 25m front crawl, the other came in the relay race.
