Euxton Villa strolled through to the third round of the LFA Amateur Shield after dismantling East Lancashire outfit Burnley United.
Villa found themselves four goals to the good after strikes from Danny Marland, Dan Morris, Byron Andrew and Dan Birkby.
Burnley, who were mere spectators throughout the majority of the game had a positive 10 minutes which saw them pull two goals back .
But a second goal from Marland put to bed any hopes of a Burnley comeback and seal a third round home tie against fellow Premier Division side Lostock St Gerard’s.
Villa possibly played some of their best football of the season in the first half.
Marland, playing out wide in a front three, caused havoc for the Burnley full-backs.
It was he who opened the scoring, challenging the Burnley keeper for the ball 30 yards from goal and coming out the victor before applying the finish into an empty net.
But despite all their play, Villa failed to fully capitalise.
Andrew was guilty of missing a one-on-one and Birkby missed from two yards.
In the second half, Villa found their scoring boots.
Andrew brilliantly played through Morris, who broke away at pace and calmly slotted the ball into the net.
Andrew, who enjoyed a welcome return to form, bent an effort from 25 yards and despite a strong hand from the keeper, he failed to prevent the ball from going in.
Birkby then opened his account for the day, lashing the ball from six yards past the goalkeeper.
Burnley did hit back with those two goals and Villa looked nervy, but the impressive Marland bagged in the later stages of the game to seal a fine victory.
n This Saturday, Villa have a home league fixture against Vickerstown (kick-off 3pm).
