Euxton Villa secured a valuable three points on-the-road defeating Tempest United 3-1 in the West Lancashire League Premier Division.

Both sides started brightly playing some expansive football.

Shaun Gibbs was tested out early in the Villa goals after Tempest took advantage of a loose ball but the keeper stood tall and saved comfortably.

But in fact it was Tempest who drew first blood.

Ben Hyde capitalised on a defensive error from Euxton to comfortably find the back-of-the-net.

However Villa were soon level, Rick Wilson threading Danny Marland through and the young striker brilliantly finding the bottom corner.

Dave Heald and Wilson both stung the palms of the goalkeeper but the sides went in level at the break.

The returning Gibbs was then tested early in the second half but goalkeeper pulled off two comfortable saves.

Two inspired changes by Villa boss Mark McDonnell saw the game turn on its head just after the hour mark.

On loan Bamber Bridge striker Greg Johnstone was sent on with Jordan Horner and together the pair tormented the Tempest back line.

Johnstone gave Villa the lead in the 65th minute toe poking the ball home from a Dan Morris cross.

From here Villa grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck, Heald almost scoring with a back heel.

And Villa would soon extend their lead, Danny Hutton carving open the Tempest back line, threading Horner through and he emphatically finished rifling the ball in the corner.

Johnstone, Byron Andrew and Horner all had chances to extend the Villa lead, while Gav Cooper unleased a 30-yard volley only to be denied by a fine save from the goalkeeper.
