Leyland girl Lisa Topping has graduated ‘Magna cum Laude’ with a BSc in Psychology from Lamar University, Texas.

Footbaler Lisa,22 attended Worden Sports College and Preston College and has always had an interest in sport.

After receiving her ‘American’ results which was an excellent Grade Point Average of 3.8 she was ecstatic with how she did.

She said: “I’m really pleased with how I did, the 3.8 GPA is like a first in England so I’m really happy.”

Lisa will now go on to study a masters in Psychology but it was her ability in football that first took her over to the states.

Lisa used to play for Liverpool Ladies FC in the Women’s Premier Division.

She made her debut at 17 and impressed plenty including many of the coaches.

Whilst playing for Liverpool she was scouted by Lamar college and offered a scholarship to go out and play and study.

She said: “I was first spotted on a DVD then coaches came flew over and took a look at me along with others.

“I really enjoyed my time in America it was excellent.”

Professional opportunities are available for women in the USA but Lisa doesn’t have her heart set on turning pro.

She added: “I want to become a clinical psychologist that is my dream.

“Turning pro would be nice but I want to go into psychology.”

Lisa performed so well this season for her college she had been approached by the Houston Aces over the summer.

She doesn’t think the standard is much different than in England but fitness is much more concentrated on.

She said: “Unfortunately I had to turn down Houston because of my visa.

“Hopefully that opportunity is there next year and I can accept it.

“Fitness is concentrated on so much more just because we have to play in 98 degree heat.

“It’s really hard sometimes because I do a climatise to the heat. But when I go home and then come back it is really hard to get used to it again.”
