Leaders Leyland made it four from four

Leyland CC are looking to maintain their impressive start to the season when they take on local rivals Chorley CC on Saturday.

The Fox Lane side have been the early pace-setters in the Northern Cricket Premier League by winning their opening four matches this season.

Leyland are hoping to welcome back professional Brett Pelser as he missed their two-wicket win over Lancashire Academy on Bank Holiday Monday.

Captaon Dave Makinson said: "Brett is doing a distance learning course to become a teacher.

"He has four exams arranged, all mid-week, in London throughout the summer.

"He arranged these from SA not realising that we played on this particular Monday.

"He tried to re-arrange his exam with no luck."

Leyland will be looking for big performances from the top of their order after their sub-pro Agha Sabir hit 52 to get the scoreboard going for the Fox Lane side on Bank Holiday Monday against the Colts.

Meanwhile, Leyland's bowlers have been sharing the wickets out and Makinson stole the limelight against Lancashire Academy with 5-30.

Chorley will provide a stern challenge for Leyland as they are also unbeaten this term.

Andrew Holdsworth's side have won two and drawn two of their matches so far.

It will be the battle of the South African professionals when Pelser pits his wits against JJ Smuts.

Smuts has been the star performer for the Windsor Park side taking 16 wickets and hitting 251 runs.

* Fox Lane will be the place to be when an All Star Leyland team take on an Emmerdale XI on May 16 in aid of St Catherine's Hospice.
