Leyland aren't too Cross as draw

Leyland maintained their position at the top of the Northern League despite drawing at bottom placed Carnforth.

St Annes's shock defeat against Lancaster meant Leyland's winning draw wasn;t as bad a result as they first feared.

In a high-scoring game at Lodge Quarry, Karl Cross made a mockery of his indifferent form with an outstanding 109 off 95 balls including 14 fours and four sixes.

It provided the backbone of Leyland's 258 for 8 declared. Cross's fifth wicket stand of 131 with Andrew Makinson, who hit five fours and four sixes in his 59 off 69 balls gave Leyland the momentum to call a halt with two overs of their innings remaining.

Opener Chris Parkinson had made a fluent 35 off 37 balls.

Carnforth openers Rehman Shah and Ryan Nelson added 60 in 20 overs to give their side a solid start as Leyland skipper David Makinson switched his bowlers around.

Carnforth closed on 198 for 6 and prevented Leylnd grabbing maximum points.
