Leyland badminton sistes keep it in the family

For years the Pallett family have dominated badminton circles in Leyland and it doesn't look like changing with two of their talented youngsters.

That's because Balshaw's High School pupils Laura and Hannah Pallett have just earned call-ups to Lancashire squads in their age-groups.

But for Laura her achievements are even sweeter because she is on the comeback trail from injury.

Proud mum Helen said: "Laura suffered quite a bad injury in September last year because she also plays football for Euxton Girls U16 side.

"I think it was a football injury and she strained her right knee and missed most of the season because of it.

"She is only starting to make a return and getting the Lancashire call-up is great.

"Now the two of them are battling it out to see who can first play for Lancashire.

"Hannah's game has come on in leaps and bounds recently in terms of her technique.

"She was a runner-up in the Lancashire Schools Competition at U14 level.

"I think that has made Laura want to work even harder so she is not overtaken by her sister.

"You could say they are keeping it in the family as both their dad Mark and I played for Lancashire."

In January 2007, the Guardian reported how history was made when Laura won the Boxing Day Leyland St Andrews Cup.

Alongside her partner Martin Rimmer, Pallett cruised to the title and was the fourth generation of her family to win the trophy.

However due to her injury problems this year Laura was not able to try to win the trophy again after crashing out at the semifinal stage.

But, Laura was part of the Balshaw's High School U16 badminton side won the South Ribble District competitions.

Helen is confident her daughters will be able to bring home more silverware in future.

She said: "Laura is a bit more tenacious and competitive than Hannah but Hannah wants to win things."
