Leyland Cricket Club’s new second team captain admits he has got a tough act to follow.
Ian Farrington has been voted in to replace Chris Dovey, who won the Northern League Division Two title before retiring.
The 28-year-old has been at Leyland since 1996 and has played at all levels for the club, including the first team. He said: “Phil Reece told me I was following in the footsteps of the most successful second team captain Leyland has ever had in Chris Dovey. It was always going to be a tough act to follow.”
Farrington, 28, will have to do without two of last season’s second XI stars. Australian batsman Daniel Hall will not be returning and Tom Reece has got a new job in Manchester.
Leyland will start the 2011 season with a game against Fleetwood.
Farrington said: “Excitement levels are building. Now that we’re in 2011, the focus is on defending our title.”
