Leyland overcome Barrow

Leyland 64-3 Barrow 62 all out

David Makinson's Leyland side cruised to a seven wicket victory over bottom-placed Barrow.

Former Lancashire ace Makinson won the toss and decided to bowl, which quickly paid off as his son Andrew claimed two early scalps.

Talented bowler Luis Reece had reason to celebrate when he trapped Barrow pro Pasan Wanasinghe on 15 as Leyland looked keen to wrap the game up quickly.

One of the other young bowlers at the club, Tom Foster, played a key role in the win by sending Chris D'Leny packing just when he looked dangerous on 17.

A combination of experienced pair Peter Cummings, below, and David Makinson claimed the last five batsmen.

Cummings finished Barrow off on 62 by claiming an impressive 4-0 haul while Andrew Makinson had 3-21.

Opener Luis Reece will probably feel he lost his wicket too soon when he was caught by D'Leny off the bowling of Daryl Wareing after facing just 19 balls.

However, his fellow opener Karl Cross ensured the Fox Lane side hit the ground running with his 30, which included two fours before he was run out.
