Leyland suffer double trouble

Northern Cricket Premier League Carnforth 218-9 Leyland 195-9

There was to be no repeat of last weekend's cup win when Dave Makinson's side took on lowly Carnforth in the Northern League on Saturday and suffered a losing draw.

Carnforth were put into bat and managed to post a total of 218 with Ameer Khan finishing with 4-53.

In reply, six of Leyland's top seven batsmen reached double figures but it was Tom Reece who made an impression with his 47 off 39 balls which included six fours and two sixes.

Khan hit 32 before he was one of Carnforth spinner Warren Quinn's five victims as he ended with 5-41.

Openers Karl Cross (26) and Luis Reece (22) were solid but Leyland's lower order were ultimately left with too much to do.

Leyland 204-6 Morecambe 205-9

Leyland were involved in a nail-biting cup match against holders Morecambe at Fox Lane on Sunday.

The home side batted first and talented batsman Henry Thompson gave a superb batting display with 72 off 78 ball including five fours and two sixes to help them post a challenging 204-6.

Thompson was helped by Tom Foster's 22 not out as the pair put on 69 for the sixth wicket.

Professional Ameer Khan had an impressive knock of 39 before being stumped.

Leyland looked to be cruising to victory as they had Morecambe at 70-6 thanks to Foster's 3-19.

However, professional Mandla Mashimbyi thrashed 79 off 68 balls including five fours and three sixes to guide to Morecambe to the verge of victory just 29 off their target.

Jono Gates smashed Reece's third delivery for six in the final over to set up the win.
