Luis returns to play for place at county level

Leyland Cricketer Luis Reece will be playing for his future when he attends trials at Worcestershire Cricket Club.

The 19-year-old has just returned from a successful season playing club cricket in Australia for Sunshine Scorchers.

He's been invited to attend nets at Worcestershire on Sunday and has to arrange a date for a similar trial at Northamptonshire.

Reece, who plays for Leyland in the Northern League, clocked up 1,014 runs in Australia with one hundred and six 50s in all competitions.

The teenager got promoted to the 1st XI and batted at No 3 and opened the bowling.

He put his success down to amore relaxed approach after a disappointing debut season with Leyland in 2009.

Last year he scored 92 against Worcestershire 2nd XI while playing for Lancashire's second string which has helped open the door to the trials.

He said: "I'm in a no-lose situation. I will give it my all.

"I took a few wickets against Worcestershire as well but they'll count for nothing when I'm down there.

"I'm 19 so my hope is to get a contract. That was why it was important to go to Australia and have a good season.

"That's the first half. I've got to do the same in the English summer."

Reece, who lives in Clayton-le-Woods, also took 37 wickets in Brisbane -including best figures of 4-19 - but says his breakthrough knock

was an innings of 49 in the first team.

"Everything seemed a bit easier this time," he said.

"I struggled at Leyland last season and everything got on top of me abit.

"When I went to Australia I took the view that failures are going to happen.

"Thankfully there were more successes than failures but ul-

timately you must remember to enjoy cricket.
