Leyland Foxes made the long trip to Carlisle on the hottest day this year only to suffer defeat.
With no reserves to call upon the heat took its toll during the second half of the game undoing all the hard work in the first half.
Carlisle had led undeservedly 3-1 at the break, but Leyland very quickly reduced the deficit with Mark Collier’s second goal.
A dubious penalty decision increased the lead again before Tony Stevens turned in a Collier cross for 3-4.
With Leyland players tiring, the hosts scored twice more to give them a flattering score line.
At least leading goal scorer Collier managed to achieve his target of 30 goals for the season.
Elsewhere, Chorley Brookfields lost 5-2 at Warrington to end their disappointing season.
Leyland Foxes ended the season in seventh place with eight wins during their campaign.
Meanwhile, Brookfields Men’s side were 10th with five wins.
