Leyland Warriors Under-16s and Under-15s kicked off their pre-season campaign at the weekend.
The Under-15s took on a strong Shevington Sharks side who play a league higher than Warriors.
Despite a battling first-half performance by Leyland, Shevington’s quality showed and they led 20-0 at half-time.
The second half was a very different affair, as Warriors stepped up a gear to match the intensity of the Shevington team.
They restricted the visitors to just a single score, and as their share of possession increased, they also got on the scoreboard themselves with a Danny Wilkins try and two Joe Weston goals.
The game finished 24-8 but Warriors had plenty of positives to take going into their next game.
The Under-16s lost 26-0 against Beverley Braves in Round Two of the National Cup.
The visitors led 10-0 at the break after some generous weather conditions.
Leyland battled hard but failed to cross the line in the second half but again can take positive into their next game.
