Nicholson settles for silver

WHILE local clubs froze in the sub-zero temperatures, a Chorley darts ace was on top form in the World Cup competition in Hamburg, Germany.
Aussie Paul Nicholson, who lives near Clayton-le-Woods, has been starring with Simon Whitlock in the competition and at the weekend helped his nation to the final of the competition.
Dubbed the ‘bad boy’ of darts, Nicholson moved to Chorley to be near his brother.
On Sunday, the 32-year-old star lost out to Raymond Barneveld in his individual tie but made up for it defeating Vincent Van der Voort 4-2.
However, he did not have it all his own way as the Dutchman won the first leg before drawing level and followed it up with a double eight to take the lead.
The Dutch Destroyer kept ‘The Asset’ on his toes by levelling the scores.
Nicholson edged in front with back to back 140s and then another century to finish winning a double 16.
The Aussie ended the contest in an 11 dart leg.
Nicholson and Whitlock did battle with England’s Adrian Lewis and Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor.
England powered to a 3-0 lead before Nicholson won a point for the Aussies beating Lewis 7-4 and ensure the match went to sudden death.
Nicholson had to settle for a silver medal after he failed to get a double 10 to win the game.
