Leyland 1st XI 136-8 Carnforth 58 all out

LEYLAND got back to winning ways by seeing off Carnforth by 78 runs.

Dave Makinson’s side were first to bat and despite Luis Reece struggling to put runs on the board, Henry Thompson and Adam Coates put together a partnership.

Thompson was unbeaten on 65 at the death, while Coates put 25 runs on the scoreboard.

Dale Jones was the only other batsman to reach double figures as the Fox Lane side closed on 136.

Reece stole the show with with 7-20 to stop Carnforth putting runs on the board.

He was well-supported by Dale Jones, Brett Pelser and AlexWilliams.

Leyland 2nd XI 250-6 Carnforth 2nd XI 167 all out

Ian Farrington’s 2nd team continue to stay in the hunt for Division Two of the Northern Cricket League with a 83-run victory over their Carnforth counterparts.

It was a carbon-copy of the 1st team’s innings as they batted first, but they were in the box seat after posting a score of 250.

Experienced batsmen Karl Cross (65) and Chris Parkinson (28) helped Leyland while Liam Hurt impressed with 68.

There were other solid knocks of 26 by both Tom Reece and Thomas Murray.

On the bowling side, the combination of Steve Pallett (3-20), Liam Hurt (3-70) and Cross (3-24) had Carnforth struggling to get going.

They were all out for 167 runs after 50 overs.

- Jonathan Mote’s 89 was one of the highlights of the 3rd team’s 110 run victory against Caton in Division Three of the Palace Shield.

Leyland set a total of 189-5 then Caton could not get their total as Chris Kelly (4-23) and Laurence Shackleton (4-12) used their experience to guide Leyland to second in the league.

- Ewan Watson (51) and Sam Oldham (41) were the key players in the 4th team’s 33 run win against Longridge.

The Wellfield Business and Enterprise College side batted first, setting a total of 126-4.

Longridge were all out for 93.
