Rhyl 0 Bamber Bridge 3

Bamber Bridge's excellent pre-season form continued with a domineering 3-0 against Welsh opponents Rhyl.

Fresh from their excellent performance 48 hours earlier against Conference Premier side Southport, manager Tony Greenwood made three changes with Chris Thompson, Paul Lloyd and Adam Wade replacing Craig Sargeson, Ally Waddecar and Ashley Dunn in the starting line-up.

Rhyl keeper Chris Howarth had already made one smart save when Darren Green opened the scoring after 44 minutes.

He beat a static defence and offside flag to chip the ball over an advancing keeper to give the visitors a deserved half-time lead.

In the second half Brig countinued to dominate the game and extended their lead on 49 minutes when Paul Lloyd advanced down the left and drilled a shot into the far corner from just inside the area.

On 52 minutes, Greenwood made wholesale changes by introducing all six of his substitues with Sargeson, Reynolds, Denney, Clarkson, Waddecar and Dunn taking to the field.

Kevin Towey nearly capped his man of the match performance with a goal when his header was tipped around the post on 62 minutes.

Luke Atherton headed home at the far post from the resultant corner to claim victory and his first goal for the club.

Bamber Bridge: Ben Hinchliffe, James Heywood, Martin Crowder, Luke Atherton, Michael White (Tom Clarkson 52mins), Warren Beattie (Neil Reynolds 52mins), Kevin Towey, Adam Wade (Ashley Dunn 52mins), Darren Green (Phil Denney 52mins), Chris Thompson (Craig Sargeson 52mins), Paul Lloyd (Ally Waddecar 52mins). Unused Subs: Additional Subs: Warren Beattie for Kevin Towey (84mins).

* A predatory strike from Kevin Towey in 38th minute gave Brig a credible victory over their Blue Square Premier neighbours in Wednesday friendly at QED Stadium.
