Schoolboys on a soccer high

A South Ribble high school will need a new trophy cabinet after a bumper year for its football teams.

Lostock Hall High School is proudly celebrating the achievements of sides from across the age groups after they swept the board in domestic and county league and cup competitions.

The year 10 team remained unbeaten all season and were crowned South Ribble league and cup winners, as well as lifting the Lancashire Cup in the U15 age-group.

It was the fourth year running they have won the league and learnt from their experience of last year when they crashed out of the Lancashire

Cup at the quarter-finals.

This time they beat off some stiff competition to reach the final which was staged at Lancaster City's ground.

They took on Preston's Corpus Christie High School and they had to work hard for their win.

The scores were level at 1-1 after full-time and extra-time so the match was decided on penalties.

One of the heroes of the penalty shoot-out was goalkeeper Jamie Kyle who saved two spot-kicks from the first five.

In sudden death, nerves got to the Corpus Christie players as one of kicks was blazed over the bar.

Lostock's top-scorer Ben Jackson with 18 goals was given the

responsibility of winning the cup for the South Ribble side.
