Squash fans squeeze in a day of fun activities
SQUASH players young and old were certainly making a 'racquet' at Leyland Leisure Centre.
It was all in aid of England Squash’s bid to get the sport recognised for the 2016 Olympics by holding a series of open days around the country.
Leyland Leisure Centre was one of the venues and there was a fun-filled day to promote squash as a sport for all.
Resident coach John Gibson said: “It was a great turnout and we had lots of fun.
“The leisure centre provided the courts for free all day and prizes were donated by my main sponsor Head UK.
“One of the main prizes included a squash racquet and there also was a fancy dress competition for the children.”
More than 40 people booked in to the sessions, which included 35 children, who joined in a day of activities.
Many of the youngsters had never been on a squash court before and most of them will be looking to take up the sport.
One 12-year-old said: “I usually play football, but I am joining the junior squash club at Leyland now.
“I’ve never enjoyed myself so much, but at the same time learned so much. What a fantastic sport!”
