Tony open to offers in a Brig clear-out

Bamber Bridge boss Tony Greenwood has sharpened the axe at Irongate, transfer-listing five players and releasing two more.

Greenwood will listen to offers for Phil Denney, Martin Moran, Phil

Eastwood, Mike Hale and Phil Robinson, while Matty Cross and Lennie Reid have left the club.

"We are not going to be relegated and we will not be in the play-offs, so we've decided to slash the wage bill now," said Greenwood.

"Why wait until the end of the season, we might as well do it this week.

"If some players want to be here next season then they have an opportunity in the next two months to show that they are committed to Bamber Bridge.

"If not, they can leave now. Our performances have been very poor this year and some of the squad are not good enough to move us forward.

"For whatever reason it has not happened, and I can't really put my finger on why.

"The lads we've signed have done it before, but it has not worked this time and their confidence is shot.

"It is very disappointing, but we've got to move on now."

Chairman Terry Gammans – who had targeted a play-off berth this season –has given Greenwood his support to re-build the squad, and the manager is already looking towards the 2010-11 campaign.

Brig have won just twice since December and crashed to their third defeat in seven days, losing 1-0 at home to Radcliffe Borough last weekend.

Brig go to Salford City tomorrow, and Greenwood vowed: "I'll battle on until I get it right – nobody is throwing the towel in.

"It was never going to be a quick fix – but it is going to take more time to get where we want to be."I thought we played well in patches against Radcliffe, but when Peter Wright had his first- half penalty saved it summed up our season.

"Then they scored on the break and we couldn't find a way through. It is very frustrating.

"The big positive was Chris Brown, the 17-year-old from Rochdale, who has come in on work experience.

"It was like he'd played 200 games, cajoling people and

trying to give them confidence.

"It was such a breath of fresh air to see that, a super boost."
