Woodley Sports 3 Bamber Bridge 1

It definitely wasn't a case of 'plastic fantastic' for Bamber Bridge on Saturday when they crashed 3-1 on Woodley Sports' artificial pitch.

Tony Greenwood's team paid the price for a profligate first half in front of goal and a dismal showing in the second period.

Injuries meant the visitors only named three subs with new signing Chris Thompson one of those unavailable.

Danny Mahoney played as the second striker alongside in-form Peter Wright and the duo combined to almost open the scoring.

Maloney released Wright but the Brig star saw his attempted chip blocked by the outstretched arm of Woodley Sports' goalkeeper Liam Higginbotham.

The home side are tough opponents on their plastic pitch and recently spanked leaders Lancaster City 4-1 on the controversial surface.

They hit back and had a good penalty claim turned down after 37 minutes when Steve Aspinall appeared to block a goalbound effort with his arm.

The first half finished scoreless but the second period was only four minutes old when the home side opened the scoring.

Mike Clarke found himself unmarked in the area and he slotted beyond Ben Hinchliffe.

Aspinall was injured soon afterwards and was replaced by Phil Denney.

Unfortunately it didn't change Bamber Bridge's fortunes as they fell 2-0 behind on 57 minutes when Liam Hogan was left unmarked to head in.

Denney had a shot cleared off the line but it was all over after 77 minutes when Dennis Sheriff added a third.

An injury time consolation from Peter Wright couldn't paper over the cracks of another disappointing away display.

The poacher supreme was the first to react when Shane Oldfield's effort came crashing off the bar, although some people thought the ball had already crossed the line before Wright slammed it home.

Bamber Bridge starting XI: 1. Ben Hinchcliffe; 2. James Heywood; 3. Matt Cross

10. Danny Mahoney; 11. Chris Marlow.

Subs: 12. Phil Denney; 14. Phil Eastwood; 15. Shane Oldfield
