Talented young people can take their first step to stardom over half term – and have lots of fun – by recording their video auditions for Furness Building Society’s Charity Challenge competition in association with the Lancashire Evening Post.

The competition gives them the opportunity to win a share of £3,000 for their favourite good cause, and the chance to be a ‘Star for a Day’ with their own VIP recording session and interviews at The Bay radio – which could put them on the road to fame and fortune.

The competition gives singers, dancers, bands and performers of all ages and styles the chance to step into the spotlight for their chosen charity, and get their talent noticed.

Half term is usually a busy time in the competition as entrants take advantage of the holiday to polish their performances and record their audition video on a mobile phone, iPad tablet or digital camera, and then upload it at www.furnessbs.co.uk/charitychallenge to see themselves on the Charity Challenge website.

Marketing Support Manager Sarah Wane, who organises the competition at Furness Building Society, says: “We have had some wonderfully talented people entering the competition over the past three years, and they have lots of fun with the videos and the live final.

“The videos are meant to give a flavour of the talent so it doesn’t matter if it is filmed on stage, or in a bedroom or a kitchen.

“We are looking for people with talent and personality who will step into the spotlight to help to promote the fantastic work of charities across the North West.”

The closing date is December 1 after which a panel of judges will select the acts to go forward to the Charity Challenge live final at the Lancaster Grand Theatre on February 8 next year.

Finalists have the opportunity to win the top cash prize of £1,000 for their charity, or runner-up prizes of £750 for second place and £500 for third place.

Every other finalist will receive £100 for their chosen charity to ensure none of the charities represented goes away empty-handed.

The competition also aims to promote the affinity partnerships which the Furness creates with charities through special ‘You Save-We Give’ charity accounts that generate annual payments to good causes from the Society’s own funds.

The more people save the more the Furness gives to the charities.

Last year the Furness paid out more than £360,000 to its charities and good causes.

Entrants can simply upload their video entry and complete the application form by visiting www.furnessbs.co.uk/charitychallenge, where videos are already on show so you can check out the competition.

Visitors will also find rules and a list of branches and agencies where video clips can be handed in on disc.
