South Korean pianist Sunwook Kim returns to Parbold Village Hall on Saturday February 8, 7.45pm as part of Douglas Music’s Live at the Weekend series.
Sunwook Kim the youngest ever winner of the Leeds International Piano Competition in 2006, forged an international career to wide critical acclaim.
He made his Parbold debut in 2011. Since then he has performed at venues across the world, including the BBC Proms in the summer.
He returns to Parbold to perform a programme featuring J S Bach’s Partita No. 1, Scriabin’s Piano Sonata No. 3 and Schubert’s Piano Sonata No. 21 D960.
J S Bach’s Partita No. 1 is a technically dazzling suite originally written for harpischord.
Scriabin’s Piano Sonata No. 3 was written in his youth, when heavily influenced by the style of Chopin and other Romantic composers. Sunwook Kim will complete the evening with Schubert’s Piano Sonata No. 21, one of the last pieces Schubert wrote, today considered a masterpiece of drama and melody.
