The Anonymous Players are presenting My Mother Said I Never Should by Charlotte Keatley between Monday, November 25 and Saturday, November 30 at Lowther Pavion, Lytham, 7.30pm each evening.
Directed by Jeff Redfern, this poignant play follows four generations of women from one family through the 20th century, showing how the demands and expectations of the world in which they live impacts on each.
Within that we see how the dreams and expectations of each generation carry through to the next – how wanting and seeking what is best for oneself and one’s children is never simple – how love and loving is a complicated business, possibly the most difficult of all.
For the four young actresses the play is a huge challenge as we see them at different times in their lives. Kirsten Burnett as ‘Doris, born at the start of the 20th century, Bernadette Scully as daughter Margaret, a child of wartime, Louise Davies as Jackie of the generation growing up in the 60s and Anna Cross as Rosie, coming of age as the century ends. All share the dreams of childhood and the joys or sorrows that come with being a mother or a daughter. Tickets on 01253 794221. Adults £10, £9.50 children.
