Crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers is today offering a reward of up to £3,000 for information on a violent burglary from a pensioner in the Wellington Avenue area of Leyland.

Bill Edmonds, 83, opened the door to the thief at 8.30pm on Tuesday, October 1.

He was pushed backwards onto the stairs and dragged through to his lounge by the ankles where the thief then demanded cash.

The thug kicked and elbowed him before slashing the pensioner’s hands with a knife as he tried to defend himself and crawl away.

The horrific ordeal continued as he was forced up the stairs on his knees with the knife pointed at his neck and watched as the burglar ransacked his possessions.

The thief made away with a wallet and additional cash that had been put aside for food shopping.

Crimestoppers is offering the reward of up to £3,000 for information passed to the charity, which leads to the arrest and conviction of the man responsible for this crime.

Crimestoppers’ North West Regional Manager, Gary Murray, said: “This burglary was a cruel and terrifying attack on an elderly man.

“The severity of this crime demands that this should not go unpunished.

“We would urge anyone who may have information to contact Crimestoppers and for them to be assured that they can do so with total anonymity.”
