A 22-YEAR-OLD is lucky to be alive after an arson attack near his home.
The terrified victim, who asked not to be named, was in his house on Kingswood Road when he heard a loud bang and saw a van parked outside his home had been set on fire.
It is thought yobs threw accelerants onto the bonnet of his yellow Mercedes van, at around 1am on July 3, causing it completely engulf in flames.
The victim said: “The car was parked right underneath the balcony of my bedroom and I had just got into bed.
“I heard a really loud pop and saw orange flames.
“The car was near enough completely burnt out. There’s nothing left of it at the front.”
Police are appealing for any witnesses of the attack, or anyone who might have information about the incident, to come forward.
The van, worth around £7,000, was partly destroyed and will not be repaired.
A spokesperson for Leyland Police said: “This appears to be a deliberate attack and enquiries are ongoing but we would appeal for any witnesses to come forward.
“They can do so by calling 0845 1253545 or by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
Crews from Lancashire Fire and Rescue also attended the scene and were there for about 45 minutes.
A spokesperson for the service said: “We were called to the scene about 1:03am as there was said to be a van on fire.
“A crew from Leyland Fire Station attended the scene and found the vehicle on fire on the driveway.
“They have decided it was deliberate and called the police. They extinguished the fire within seconds but were on the scene for around 45 minutes sorting things out.
“The passenger compartment of the van and the engine were both on fire.”
