One of the city’s bestselling authors is set to make a return to his old book shop for a signing of his new Preston-based Gothic thriller.

Andrew James Hartley – known as AJ Hartley – is coming to Waterstones in Fishergate a week on Sunday to mark the release of his new novel, ‘Cold Bath Street’, based on the real Cold Bath Street next to UCLan’s Media Factory.

And the occasion will be a nice return for the New York Times bestselling author, who worked in the book shop shortly after it opened before relocating to the United States for work.

Ami Warnock of Waterstones Preston said: “We’ve ordered stock and already sold 25 copies of the book so I’m going to have to some more for the signing at this rate!

“We always tend to do well with local books set in areas that people are familiar with.

“I’ve had a few customers coming in talking about Cold Bath Street and their memories of it.”

Ami added: “If anyone who cant come to the signing wants a signed copy they can reserve them in store and we can get them signed so they don’t miss out.”

The book was also published locally through University of Central Lancashire Publishing.

Associate professor in publishing at UCLan, Debbie Williams, said: “We are the only student-run publishing house in the world.

“As lecturers we double check everything but this time we could not find any mistakes. It’s astounding.”

The signing takes place at Waterstones on Sunday, April 15, from 1pm to 4pm.

A meet and greet with AJ will also take place in UCLan’s Greenbank building next Thursday at 5pm.
