A Leyland swimmer has dived into business and currently teaches 250 children a week.

Jo Grime is only 25 but is the boss of IATD Fitness.

If things had gone differently the former lab technician at Runshaw College could have been a biology teacher.

However, Jo, who lives in Leyland Lane, turned her attention to coaching swimming three years ago and has never looked back.

The teaching currently takes place in Bolton, Blackburn, Tarleton and Leyland, and Jo is looking to expand even further.

She said: “We started in Bolton with just me and another instructor, but now we have 10 people.

“We can coach from beginner, where we build up people’s confidence and to basic strokes, all the way to competitive stuff.

“We teach in the water with them and we have quite small groups – of around six to eight people.

“It makes a huge difference to do this as you can show them straight away what to do.”

They will be holding sessions at Leyland Hotel in May on Thursdays and Saturdays, from May 19.

The Chorley-born swim fanatic took part in national championships as a youngster and is taking part in the Great Salford Swim in May.

Last year she took part and completed the mile race in 24 minutes and 14 seconds. This meant that out of 2, 000 women she came 12th. Jo added: “We are all passionate about swimming and swimming teaching, swimming has been my whole life, so I really love it and love running my business!”

Swimmers from the ages of three-and-a-half up upwards are able to be taught, group classes usually cost £48 for eight weeks, and one-to-one sessions at £20.
