Celebrating vital role of munitions factory

Members of Buckshaw Village WI turned back the clock when they held a 75th anniversary celebration of ROF Chorley – the former munition factory which is now the site of Buckshaw Village.

Members enjoyed a talk by a former employee on the history of the site and its important works in the First World War and the vital role women played in the war effort.

Refreshments for the evening consisted of authentic wartime recipes, accompanied by hits from the blitz, including such delights as Mexican cream and leek and dripping sandwiches.
