Former Leyland school boy and Preston North End player Clarke Carlisle is awake in hospital and getting stronger by the day, according to his wife Gemma.
The 35-year-old was seriously injured in a collision with a lorry as he walked along a dark and remote stretch of the A64 in North Yorkshire on December 22.
Carlisle, who also played for Burnley and Blackpool, has spent the past three weeks in hospital in Leeds.
Responding to ‘get well’ messages on Twitter, Gemma told fans: “Thanks again for asking after Clarke. He’s still in hospital, but getting better and stronger each day.”
The former Balshaw’s CE High School pupil is also facing court action over an alleged drink driving offence.
He was charged with failing to provide a sample on December 20 and is set to appear at court.
