South Ribble Council has disputed figures which show that three staff members took home more than £100,000 in 2010/11.
The Taxpayers’ Alliance has released statistics which show that the same number of employees were paid more than £100k in 2009/10 and in 2010/11.
But Coun Stephen Robinson, the council’s cabinet member with responsibility for finance and resources, said only one member of staff took home that much.
He said: “The figures from the Taxpayers’ Alliance inaccurately suggest that we had three employees earning salaries of more than £100,000 in 2010/11, which is quite simply not the case.
“They are categorically wrong, and I’ve no idea where they got their numbers from.
“We have only ever had one employee at a time earning just over £100,000 a year.”
