A pensioner has been charged with a string of sex offences – some dating back more than 40 years – against children in Preston.

Alexander Lawson Keith, of Lostock View, Lostock Hall, near Preston, is accused of seven counts of indecent assaults on youngsters.

The charges against the 66-year-old relate to five girls.

All of them were aged under 14 at the time, the court heard.

Some of the alleged offences date back to a period in 1973.

Others, involving different girls, relate to periods in between the 1970s and 2002.

At his first appearance before the courts, the defendant was granted conditional bail by Preston Magistrates’ Court which committed the case to Preston Crown Court.

Keith entered not guilty pleas to each offence during a preliminary hearing and will next appear on July 31 for a case management hearing.

A five day trial is now expected to take place on December 7.
