Cul-de-sac could be used to access 125 homes development

A quiet cul-de-sac is set to be widened and used as a temporary access route to a new housing estate in Leyland.

South Ribble Council’s planning officers have agreed that Bannister Lane can be used to access a future development of 125 homes in Farington Moss.

Wainhomes has applied for the access approval, and the planning committee is set to vote on the proposals at a meeting next Wednesday, February 26.

If given the go-ahead, it would mean Bannister Lane, which the committee previously said should not be used as an access road, would act as temporary access until Lancashire County Council builds a new road connecting Croston Road to Flensburg Way, as outlined in its Highways and Transport Masterplan.

This link road would go through the centre of a new 600-home development.

The project would also involve the stopping up (removal of public rights of way) of Bannister Lane, which is a cul-de-sac of 33 houses, after the new road is built.

The council has received 20 letters of objection over the proposals, with residents complaining about Bannister Lane being used for access, road safety issues and traffic congestion.

One argued that the road infrastructure for the wider site needs to be in place before home building commences.
