A teenage cyclist made his final journey last week, surrounded by his grieving teammates and family.
Lewis Balyckyi, 18, (pictured) of Cinnamon Hill Road South, Walton-le-Dale, died in a collision with a van while out training on his bike on North Road, Bretherton, on January 18.
Lewis, who had been tipped to compete in the 2012 Olympics, was set to move to France next month to join a semi-pro cycling team.
His funeral was held at St Saviour’s Church in Bamber Bridge, and fellow cyclists were invited to make their way to the service on their bikes. His bike was carried on a car as a lasting tribute to the talented cyclist. Lewis, a former pupil at Lostock Hall High School, rode for Teamwallis-CHH, a Preston-based development squad.
