Fire services were called to IQ halls on Moor Lane at around 5.30am this morning (November 24) after reports of smoke in the building.
The crews discovered that the smoke was the result of a military parade smoke bomb that had been set off.
The incident tied up the resources of four fire engines from Preston, Fulwood and Penwortham.
Watch Manager David Shaw said: "People should be aware of the repercussions of their actions. It is frustrating that our engines were needlessly tied up by these silly actions."
