A 35-year-old Leyland man has been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register after admitting to flashing his genitals in public.

Carl Andrew Dewhurst, from Spring Gardens, shouted at a woman as she walked along Fox Lane in the town, and exposed himself.

Chorley Magistrates’ Court heard how Dewhurst’s victim felt ‘frightened and intimidated’ by him.

Prosecuting, Martina Jay said: “On Saturday, February 16, a female was walking along Fox Lane when she saw a male walking in her direction.

“She felt uneasy because he was staring at her, and she quickened her pace.

“The male walked past her and as he did, he jolted his head towards her. She felt intimidated and frightened.

“He walked past her and shouted ‘Oi’ and she saw him pull his trousers down.

At that point he exposed himself and commited a lewd act.

She added that Dewhurst took a few steps towards the woman, who has not been identified, and she informed the police straight away.

The court heard how that Dewhurst accepted that what he had done was wrong, and he was remorseful.

He pleaded guilty to the offence, and was ordered to pay £50 court costs and a £60 victim surcharge.

Handing his sentence,
magistrate Mr Kemp said Dewhurst will be placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for five years, and also be subject to supervision requirements.

He added: “You are not to expose yourself at any time in a place which is visible to the public, and you are not to engage in non-consensual contact with females.”
