A crowdfunding appeal launched to help raise cash for stricken families in Croston has already raised more than half of its £5,000 target.

Sarah Pattison, who set up the Just Giving page, said the home of her relatives Jean and Jason Hampson had been flooded to waist level, for the second time in three years.

She said: “The house is unlivable and it will be for a couple of months - you open the cooker doors and water comes out.”

Sarah, 31, who lives in Ashton, Preston, set up the Just Giving page on Sunday evening after helping to move relatives’ valuables from the ground floor.

She said: “We moved everything we could on Boxing Day and came back on the 27th and when we got here we still had to walk through water up to our knees.

“We lifted things up high thinking it would be safe, but it wasn’t.

“It physically lifted the freezer, and the TV, which was on top, has ended up floating around in the water.

“What we had seen was ridiculous, and we knew the community centre needed to raise £5,000 extra.

“We know there are houses that haven’t got insurance because of the previous floods, or with really high excess, and we could see people having to throw their Christmas presents away.”

Sarah said the money raised would go towards repairs to the community centre, and to help families struggling to pay.

She said equipment could not be dried yesterday, while flood warnings were still in place.

The tally raised stood at more than £3,305 on Wednesday.
