A Leyland sports club described as a ‘community hub’ is in the running to win a major cash boost.
Fox Lane Sports and Social Club needs the people of Leyland to vote for it to get a £3,000 grant from the Lloyds Banking Group Community Fund 2013 Award, which it has just been shortlisted for.
Vice-chairman David Bradshaw said: “I would class Fox Lane as being the jewel in the crown of South Ribble when it comes to sporting amenity, and it’s the area’s best kept secret, I think.
“I don’t think people realise how much we do, but we’ve got hockey teams, cricket, coaching sessions, crown green bowling, tennis, snooker and pool, and football here.
“Community groups also meet here, such as the Leyland Lions charity group, and we have a function suite and even fitness classes. It’s a very busy place.
“It’s a very big garden to keep up to scratch though. It’s seven and a half acres, and there’s always something to update or repair, so we’re continually fighting to keep going.
“It would be fantastic to get this money and anything we get will be ploughed right back into the facility.”
Voting closes on November 1, and people can cast their vote at the Lloyd’s branch on Hough Lane, or by visiting www.lloydsbank.com/communityfund.
