Fylde slump to defeat against bottom club

Fylde - dismal day
Fylde - dismal day

Fylde's season reached a critical point as they lost 34-17 away to Blaydon in National League One

The Blaydon ground has proved a less than happy hunting ground for Fylde and that fact was underlined in stark manner.

Fylde had made the ideal start, racing into an early 14-0 lead to stun the hosts.

Oli Brennand and Chris Johnson crossed for tries - Johnson converted both of them.

From that point, Blaydon began to claw their way back into the match, and Fylde conceded two penalty tries, clearly having trouble up front.

To add to their woes, Fylde had Dave Fairbrother yellow-carded, while, even worse, Mark Goodman became the third player this season to be sent off.

By half-time, Fylde's lead had disappeared and the scores were tied at 17-17, Johnson having added a penalty.

Blaydon, who had gone into the match having lost their last seven matches, scored 17 points in the second half, two converted tries and a penalty, while Fylde drew a blank to make it a dismal day.
