GCSE success for Leyland students

Pupils from high schools across Leyland are jumping for joy after securing their best ever GCSE results.

They include students from Leyland St Mary's, who are boasting a 67 per cent pass rate for grades A to C including Maths and English, up from last year's rate of 61 per cent.

16 brainy pupils from the Royal Avenue school also achieved A-level qualifications, and pupils were at the forefront in a new national diploma in Engineering.

Wellfield Business and Enterprise College also enjoyed its best ever year, with students achieving more qualifications than ever before.

53 per cent of pupils achieved five A* to C grades, and 40 per cent of students achieved five A to C grades, including Maths and English.

Pupils from Worden Sports College are boasting a 35 per cent increase on last year's pass rates, with 78 per cent of students gaining a grade A* to C grade.

That includes 90 per cent of students achieving A* to C grades in English Literature, 100 per cent pass rates in Modern Foreign Language subjects, and high scores in Catering and Hospitality.

99 per cent of students achieved at least five GCSE passes.

Balshaws High School is also celebrating after securing a fantastic 93 per cent pass rate, and 66 per cent including grades A* to C in English and Maths.

Pupils at the Church Road school scored high in Maths, RE, Food Technology and Science, and will be looking to build on their success at colleges including Runshaw and Cardinal Newman.
